Minty Green Surprise
I had a request recently for my Green Tea soap. I had been focussing so much lately on producing my main Mediterranean soaps and keeping them stocked, that I have not been experimenting as much. Also, my older, non-Mediterranean focussed soaps have almost been forgotten! So how pleasantly surprised was I when I made my Green Tea soap, with a few modifications and Voila! A soft minty green that I really like. It may be the nicest green I have ever achieved and without painstakingly trying.
This soap is made with Green Tea and Goat Milk. It also has flecks of the Green Tea itself in it. Then I also added some Spirulina powder. I know Spirulina usually fades. We will see how this one goes. Check out the Spirulina glob on the top of one of the soaps! Oooops.
The odd thing is that I scented it with Peppermint, Spearmint and Vanilla EOs.... so it smells and almost looks like Mint Chocolate-Chip Ice-Cream (Sabor After Eight en Español), my favourite!
Also, please note the cut... no crumbling! Yippee! Lately I have been cutting earlier, almost straight out of the mould. Cutting when it is softer has helped the crumble I think.
Happy Soaping!
xo Jen
I use parsley powder for a natural green color, but this also fades, I will have to try the spirulina. Your soap looks great!
ReplyDeleteLooks good.
ReplyDeleteI love green tea soap!
Jen pues se ve precioso, muy natural y el olor a menta me encanta. Enhorabuena por el corte. Besos. Ana
ReplyDeleteSo pretty! I have also used nettle leaf powder for a nice green (I love green soap). It fades too (I think most natural colors do eventually), but if you keep it out of the light, it lasts quite a long while. :)
ReplyDeleteLove the look of this soap. The tea leaf flecks give it such an extra natural edge. Great job!
ReplyDeleteThat green is nice and earthy Jen! I hope your green holds. I've never tried a tea soap....do you detect any noticable difference in the finished soap's lather or moisturizing? I sure do miss your experiments... :( But I'm very happy that your busy. :)

ReplyDeleteI like your new soap and the nice colour you achieved. I too like After Eight mints.
ReplyDeleteThis is such a lovely green colour, Jen, another great soap!
ReplyDeleteMelissa, I have heard from many sources that Parsely works well for green. I may have to try it!
ReplyDeleteTeresa, I love green tea soap as well. Thank you!
Ana, muchísimas gracias. Besitos.
Ann, I tried Nettle leaf as well and I liked it. The green was great, but there was an odd smell that I could never get rid of...
Anne-Marie, Thank you so much. Compliments from the master are so appreciated! You must be so excited and counting down the minutes to motherhood!
Becky, I don't notice any differenc in the lather, but I have a few eczema clients who just love this soap and say it works the best for them.
Spluge, I see you have been experimenting with Tea soaps lately as well! I could do with an After Eight right now.... a little packet of After Eight mints was what my mother always bought for my teachers at the end of the school year...
Miss Polly, Thank you!!
xoxo to all,
Jen
I'm new to soaping but my addiction is quite severe thanks to you and your great blog. Your photos are fantastic !
ReplyDeleteDonna, I loved your comment! Wow. Thank you so much. If I have helped another soaper get even more addicted to this awesome craft.... I feel good! Just checked out your blog again and you are a wonderfully funny writer! I would love to see a post about your recent soap adventures? xo Jen
ReplyDeleteMmmm,Jen I love the thought of green tea with mint - it's always seemed like such an intuitive pairing to me. I have often thought about trying it - yours is lovely.
ReplyDeleteLooks great Jen, love the flecks though out, makes it look nice and natural:)
ReplyDeleteThey look really pretty and I am sure smell heavenly. I love mint. :)
ReplyDeleteHi Jennifer,
ReplyDeleteThe Green Tea Soap looks really nice with the design and texture. What modifications did you make with this soap, and what difference did it make? Also, would you describe the fragrance as fairly, and not too strong?
Looks great Jennifer!
Michael, Thanks for your comment! I had to modify this recipe because my original recipe had palm oil and I don't use it any more, so I switched the basic recipe to one of my palm-free ones. It cut brilliantly. Nice and smooth. We will see how the soap is once it cures! The aroma is slightly strong right now but it will mellow I believe.
ReplyDeleteNitya - thank you!!
Jan - Thank you!! I kind of like the flecks too.
Michele - Maybe it has something to do with the green? Doesn't green inspire mint somehow? I think it works well in this soap. It you try a green tea soap too, I look foward to seeing your posted pictures!
