I tried 4 different versions of Pomegranate Soap. Unfortunately, the scents were all duds. I have been very frustrated with my EO blending recently. I have decided that I don’t like Frankinsence or Palmarosa in soap. I have tried blending them in many different ways but I just don’t like either of them. In the last few months, I have only come up with 2 new scents that I have really liked. Oh well… it is all part of the fun! The colours were very interesting. They all have fresh pomegranate juice that I made from local pomegranates. They also all have some pomegranate seed oil in them.
The first photo shows them in order – Soap 1 (from left to right) has half water, half pomegranate juice. Soap 2 has all pomegranate juice, no water. Soap 3 has all pomegranate juice and madder root, as a colour experiment, and in an attempt to preserve the little pomegranate seed oil I had left, it is superfatted with both pomegranate seed oil and rose hip oil. Soap 4 is similar to soap 3 but without the madder root.
The soap is wonderful (except for the scent). SO smooth and rich and my skin feels wonderful afterward. This is definitely a repeat, but I need to come up with a great scent for it…
Also, I may not be able to continue experimenting with this one this year… as the pomegranate season ended suddenly. Right when the local pomegranates were at their ripest, there was a torrential rain storm which made most of the pomegranates crack, open up and fall to the ground.
hope you are all well and enjoying the holiday season

I like Frankinsence or Palmarosa. I was studying aromatherapy. me, to make one scent, I use least three essential oils. I like...
ReplyDeleteFrankincense 1, geranium 2, bergamot 1.
Frankincense 1, Cypress 2, Melissa 1.
Palmarosa 1, myrrh 2, rosewood 1.
Palmarosa2, lavender 1, lemon 2...etc
I recently made a blueberry soap, it's wonderful scent(I used 8 EO) but color was not so nice...
so it's not only you, our soap experiment continues!
bisous
Mika
Did you love using the maddor root? I sure do. A little scratchy if too much but great for scrubbing my hand after doing icky animal chores that involve manure!
ReplyDeleteThanks again for sharing all your experiments
Mika, Thanks for the suggestions! I know I should try more with the oils I don't love, but for now I am taking a break from them and experimenting with others. Let us know how your Blueberry soap turns out!! xo Jen
ReplyDeleteDonna, yes I really enjoyed working with Madder root but I have a lot more experimenting to do with it. Wanna try with a milk soap, a water soap etc etc. Hope you are having a wonderful holiday season! xo Jen
Finally managed to soap my own pomegranate as well - half juice/half water.
ReplyDeleteI expected it to be much darker than it actually turned out. Will post pictures later...unfortunately the FO I used spoiled my design;)
I like the one with madder root best - lovely color!
Hellcat, Thanks for the comment! Post pictures. Can't wait to see your pomegranate experiments!! Merry Christmas, xo Jen
ReplyDeleteSo sad about the abrupt ending of the pomegranate season, but wonderful to see how the experiments turned out! Loving the soap with Madder root, such an appropriate color to pair with the pomegranate! =)
ReplyDeleteAnne-Marie, Thanks for your comment. Maybe I will stick with the madder root for the Pomegranate soap? xo Jen
ReplyDeleteI love the colour of the third soap. All of these soaps sound wonderful with their oils and real pomegranate juice.

Thank you so much for experimenting with pomegranate juice in soap ~ I have been wanting to for a while but not quite game enough...lol ;)
ReplyDeleteI love the colour of each of them but the madder root one is exactly right to my mind's eye :)
I think we are in agreement that the madder root made the loveliest color! I hope you find a fragrance blend that you love to go along with it! :)
ReplyDeleteI use just a bit of palmarosa in my Lavender Meadows blend. Gives it some green notes. I've tried several different frank & myrrh eo blends, and they all smell different! One of them reminds me of the orthodontist's office when I was young - I believe it was made with a lot of cedar!
Michelle, thank you for your comment. I am loving the feel and smoothness of this soap! Just seeking the scent... xo Jen
ReplyDeleteTopcat, I may stick with the madder root one, but maybe with half water/ half juice to see if the pinkness/red comes through more! Thanks for your comment and happy holidays! xo Jen
Amy, thanks for your comment! I may continue with blending palmarosa and frankinsence but I think I am holding for a while because they have frustrated me so much. Orthodontists office? Now that takes me back to my awkward teen days - greasy hair (in a style that was supposed to be Lady Di but didn't look QUITE like her..., pimples and braces... it was not a pretty site!! xo Jen
One great experiment you did there Jennifer!! Totally love the third soap from the left with madder root...goes perfectly with the pomegranate. I am sure you will hit on a scent that goes with your pomegranate soap creation. :)
ReplyDeleteNitya, Thank you! Glad you liked the madder coloured soap! I will continue to find the perfect scent... xo Jen
