Christmas Soap Packaging

As tomorrow is my first pre-Christmas market, I am busy packaging our Christmas soaps, as well as preparing the baskets for our Christmas raffle.
My husband and I argued about discussed and discussed the Christmas soap packaging and had to agree to disagree in the end. I liked the parcel with bow on top (I know I know, so unlike me to go for anything plasticky… but for some reason I liked it) and my husband preferred simplicity.  He is soooo into our logo that he always prefers the logo to be the protagonist, not the bow, nor the soap type, nor the wrapping.  So, we agreed to package some my way, and some his way.
As I have written about before… he is detail oriented and I am big picture. How fortunate I feel that we are able to appreciate the balance our differences bring to the table.  I see clutter, not dust.  He’s doesn’t mind that the clothes sit in a pile on top of the dresser instead of making their way into the drawers… but he notices a hair that falls from my head if I forget to wear my hairnet in the studio.
So, here is both.
Sneak tweaking peek… This week I have been CONSUMED with the new packaging for our entire soap line… we have been thinking about changing things for a while, mainly to simplify things as packaging has become so time consuming and our time is so valuable.  The solution hit me like a bolt of lightning earlier this week and I have been so excited about it that I have even woken up in the middle of the night, to jot down ideas…  I used to get excited about going out on a Friday night… now I can’t sleep because of new packaging?  Ah well, at least I am passionately excited about something.   It’s currently coming together piece by piece and I will reveal more when it is finished!!

Happy and passionate soaping and holiday preparing!!!  Xo Jen

  5. St. Maja, So nice to receive your comment and how lovely that you enjoy my blog and that my experiences may give you courage in some way. I think we are fortunate this day and age with the internet, that even in a litte fishing village in Southern Spain or maybe in Macedonia... we can still get our product out all over the world! Do you have a blog? Send me the link. I couldn't find it. xoxxo Jen

    1. Thanks for replying,Jen. I still don't have a blog, but intensively thinking about starting one. My dilemma is what language I should write in. Being a Serbian, living in Macedonia,I'm not really comfortable with using Macedonian, but I strongly believe that local people should be given a chance to get to know something about this lovely passion of ours (because there's no local soap crafter here!!!) ! I'll be happy to forward the link to you, once I start it.

  11. St. Maja, languages are so important and I agree that your decision is important. My suggestiong would be to write each post in 2 or 3 languages. My other blog - naturalmente mediterraneo, is in two languages because Spanish is important here. It is more time consuming for me but important. I suggest you put English first, then Macedonian. Send me your link once you get started!!!! xoxox Jen

  15. Hi Jen, AWESOME packaging! I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE the Christmas-ey NM logo!!

I think the soap in front with the band is a bit more customer-friendly in that you can EASILY see the soap variety, and it looks festive (I know how fun it is to "brand"....very gratifying for us as soap-makers, but what I have found, through much trial and error of my own,is that what the customer wants most is info about what they're getting ready to buy, presented in an attractive way....not so much a focus on the our brand) Both packages are lovely, but if I had to pick one that I think would be preferred by customers it would be the front bar with the band label. A perfect balance of professional branding, fun and information -you hit this one outta the park, my friend! :)

Becky, Thank you sweetheart!! I have been taking both to markets, and people have been going for the cellophane wrapping one... I think it's because it is a gift already wrapped... Hope you are well and busy with holiday soaping preparations!! xo Jen

  17. Maybe because they can SEE the pretty soap? That's why I use the boxes with cutouts -keeps the soap clean, protects it from damage and folks can still see it! I can't wait to see your new packaging! Merry Christmas my friend. :)
