Soap Experiment - Potpourri # 1

In trying to use up my soap shreds, I created "Potpourri". This is the first attempt.  In the background you can see second attempt which will be another post.

pouring soap batter...  Please note the little stainless steel pot behind the mould which contains my Essential Oils and Castor Oil.  Yes!  I forgot to include them.  Didn't realize until too late.  So this batch turned out to be odourless and Castor Oil-less!  Ooooops.

adding soap shreds...

topping up...

straight out of incubation...

Happy Soaping!! xoxo Jen

Jen,

It looks great, I love how you used your soap shreds and just placed them in like you did. I always have soap shreds when I use my beveler or when I want to shave a little off my bars to make them look better. Your giving me an idea to do a post about that sometime. Sometimes I get so focused on the soap part of things I forget to include photos of the behind the scenes. Love your adorable cutter.

How did you get uch long preet shreds ? I usually grate my old soap bars on a cheese grater so they are short. Yours look like party ribbons. And of course there are alwys the folks out there who want unscented. They will love these bars !

"Confetti"-Looks like a New Years Eve kinda soap to me -FABULOUS! Great way to use up your trimmings, too. 'Hate to waste even a shred! :)

At least it looks like the castor oil was a small portion of the recipe! The soap turned out very nice anyway! :) Can't wait to see #2!

Donna, These shreds are the corners I shave off (with a peeler) the corners of my soap logs! the bad soaps I also grate up like you and use in laundry detergent. I like that you see party ribbons!! Thanks for your comment! xo Jen

Confetti? New Years Eve? Perfect. You are so right! Thanks! As I mentioned to Donna, the bad soaps, I cut up and shred with my cheese grater and make laundry detergent. These shreds were too good for that! xo Jen

Yes, the Castor Oil only made up 3% of the oils but clearly the Superfat will have been changed... Thanks for commenting! xo Jen

Looks lovely! I like the hint of colour in there and perhaps the scents of the shreds will fragrance the soap a little anyway?

Jennifer Young said...

Hi Celine, No... the unscented soap really smells unsented.... Glad you like the colour hint. Thank you!! xoxo
